Our History

Mariposa Child Success Programs, originally The Institute for Family Education, was established in 2002 as a non-profit organization. Originally, IFE's programming was dedicated to parenting workshops. Recognizing how much time children spend at schools and centers, we expanded our program to include workshops for childcare professionals, therapists and teachers. In doing so, we found that positive change in child rearing practices can and will occur when parents and teachers work in unison.

Mariposa has provided training to seventy-one childcare centers and schools, plus agencies ranging from the YMCA to the House of Ruth. The lessons we have learned from our participants include:

  • The best promotion of positive child outcomes is promotion of the requisite social, emotional, and behavioral skills needed for self-esteem, effective interpersonal interactions, independence, and inquisitiveness. Social-emotional development is greatly improved when both parents and teachers/providers are jointly trained and cooperating toward this goal.
  • Comprehensive professional training, which supports healthy social, emotional, and behavioral development of young children, is critically important and sometimes missing from child-care and teacher curriculum.
  • Professional training must be culturally and contextually sensitive.
We continue to improve our programs based upon participant feedback and professional evaluations. While maintaining the integrity of our core curriculum, Mariposa customizes training workshops to meet the particular needs of clients.
