Parent Workshops
Each workshop is 2-3 hours in length and features a presentation by a Mariposa doctorally-prepared instructor, followed by a lively question and answer session.
Interaction Styles and Child Success: From Self Analysis to Solutions
Parents know the importance of helping their children acquire intellectual skills for success in school and life. But it's just as important for children to master their emotions. This course teaches skills and strategies that go a long way towards raising happy, kind, empathic, self-regulated children.

Alternatives to Punishment: Managing Behavior and Increasing Self Discipline
Finding the right balance between a permissive and a strict household can be a real challenge for mom and dad. Impose too many limits and children can lose their drive to be independent; impose too few and you can create chaos. In this course, Mariposa instructors teach parents how to set limits, make rules and determine appropriate consequences.
Stressed Out Kids!
Between academic demands, over-scheduling, and the pressure of competition, many of today's kids are bombarded with stress-filled situations. They need time and opportunities just to have fun and turn down the heat. Yet many kids have no idea how to do it, and many parents aren't sure how to help. This workshop teaches specific ways to recognize and deal with the signs of stress in children so that they and those around them can enjoy life to the fullest.
Bullying, Teasing, and Social Exclusion: Signs, Symptom and Solutions
Whether a child is the target or the perpetrator of this behavior, parents can help. Bullying, teasing and social exclusion occur at virtually any age and children need healthy coping skills. Mariposa prepares parents for addressing these issues and helping their children deal with them.
Planting the Seed: Fostering Trust, Autonomy and Competence
For parents and parents-to-be, this is a workshop to strengthen the bond between parents and infants. This workshop will help provide participants with skills that build their confidence as parents and to provide a forum for skills' practice and reinforcement including, emotion regulations, stress management, for parents and baby etc. Self assessment tools will help parents gauge their support systems and thoughts about parenting.
Separation: Going to School, Going to Work, and Other Tough Transitions
Many parents feel guilty about going off to work and leaving their children behind. And many children act out when they go off to school, leaving their parents behind. It's all about separation. Learning how to handle it, without guilt, is an important skill for parents. It's one that contributes to happy children and happy moms and dads.
