Building Confidence, Trust, and Hope: Three Things You Can Do to Help an Anxious Child

A parent course

What do parents need to truly help their children, not just today, but in the years to come too?

In our work with parents, all too often, they come to us when they feel stuck and unable to help their children. Whether their child is acting out, or acting in, they are concerned and want their children to be happy, to engage with them and with the world around them. Parents often see signs of stress and anxiousness that affect their child’s ability to sleep, get along with family members, engage in enjoyable activities, take on new challenges, and step confidently into social situations.

It’s hard to see, and yet often the way parents seek to help feels fruitless or even seems to make things worse. We know that children should not be allowed to endlessly sit in front of a tv or avoid any challenges, and yet, when we push them to go out, get work done, help out, socialize, it seems to increase stress and anxiety. We want to reduce their stress, but we recognize that avoiding sports practice, the messy room, the homework or the play outside is not helping. They need those experiences to feel competent and happy again.

This program gives parents the brain science, research and concrete tools to help their children cope in times of stress.

We’ve taken the best of our content specifically targeted at helping parents with children who are anxious and created a unique program with options for personal support, which we know is an important ingredient. The course includes 4 live sessions with practice and coaching.  There are opportunities for written feedback to individual unique  challenges.

This program is based on Mariposa’s scientifically validated method that’s been used by over 34,000 adults and impacted many more children. It’s also based on our years of teaching experience and learning with parents how to help them develop the skills necessary to address their immediate challenges AND set their child up for a life of healthy relationships and resilience

NOTE: This program is not intended to diagnose or treat clinical anxiety and does not in any way replace the guidance of medical professionals.

Anne Townsend, Ph.D.

I’m a social-emotional scientist and for more than 2 decades I’ve been researching how children of all ages develop the social-emotional skills they need to be successful in school and in life. I founded Mariposa with a mission to change the lives of children through our proprietary method. Mariposa is an official partner with Loyola University where I have developed and taught a graduate level course on promoting social-emotional learning as well as an advanced course specifically focused on the role of stress and trauma in a child’s ability to learn, form relationships and behave appropriately.

Jenny Barrett, M.Ed.

As an early childhood educator for 30 years, a special educator, an administrator and parent, I have found this method the single most impactful in all of the training I have had. I was first able to bring this into a school community as an administrator. Seeing the culture that we have been able to create at one Baltimore city preschool, has been transformational. And through Mariposa,I am committed to bringing this approach to as many educators and parents as possible. Because I see the impact of it. And through facilitator training with The National SEED project, (Seeking Equity and Educational diversity,) I've seen the overlap and importance of this work , as well as how the Mariposa method supports culturally responsive teaching.
